Is there parking ?
Yes, there is extensive reasonably priced pay and display parking both outside and in the surrounding streets. It is free after 5.30pm.
Why do I need a demonstration ?
Firstly so that you know how your purchase will sound and you can try different options. Secondly, so you can ask any questions before you commit and thirdly to let us help - careful component matching can make the difference between a system you can listen to or really enjoy for many years !
How do I arrange a demonstration ?
Either give us a call, send an email or just pop in. Normally one or two days notice is enough.
What do I need ?
A basic system consists of five elements: A source (CD, Tuner, DVD etc), interconnects (to connect the source to the amplifier), an amplifier (to amplify the signal), a pair of speakers (five in an AV system) and speaker cable (to connect the speakers to the amplifier). All contribute to the sound and should be chosen with care - we can help.
How should I split my budget ?
Current thinking is that cost wise, the most important element is the primary source, closely followed by the amplifier and then the speakers. This may vary depending on the system and the room in which it will be. Normally cabling should be around 10-15% of the system cost.
How long is my equipment guaranteed for ?
As members of BADA (see below) we offer a two year guarantee on all new equipment. We also offer a 10 day exchange on all goods (excluding special orders). Some manufacturers offer up to five years cover for parts.
How can I pay for it ?
We accept Cheques, Cash, Debit Cards, Credit Cards (inc Amex) and can also offer 0% finance (subject to approval). We normally ask for a deposit of a third with the balance payable on collection/delivery.
Can you deliver ?
Provided you are local we can deliver free of charge. For customers who are further away we can still arrange delivery for a modest charge.
Can you install it for me ?
We are always happy to arrange installation. If you purchase a complete system from us, the first hour is free of charge which would normally cover setting up a simple system.
Where should I put my Hi-Fi system ?
We offer a wide range of equipment racks to suit most tastes, requirements and budgets. A good rack helps the system components perform at their best. Alternatively, bespoke cabinets can be commissioned and we can advise with regard to required dimensions, equipment layout etc.
How far apart should I place my speakers ?
This depends on the room and type of speakers, but normally between 6 - 12ft apart. We can advise.
What is AV ?
'AV' stands for Audio Visual and is used to refer to Home Cinema systems. In basic terms, a Home Cinema system consists of a source, usually a DVD player, an amplifier, which has processing and amplification for five separate channels (or more) and a speaker package which consists of three speakers for the front (Front left, Right and Centre) two speakers for rear effects and a subwoofer. At Oranges & Lemons we stock a number of 'AV' systems which we believe provide great Home Cinema whilst also sounding good for music. We can help with choosing your DVD, processor/amplifier and a speaker package to go with it.
I want sound all round my home ?
Multiroom as it is called comes in many guises offering differing levels of quality, versatility and control at many different price points. Oranges and Lemons has built up an excellent reputation for specifying and installing these systems. Once you have an idea of what you want to achieve, come in and discuss it with us. We offer a free consultation and can advise your options and produce a proposal for you to consider.
Do you handle repairs ?
Provided it is a brand we deal with we are happy to look after your repairs. Currently we can handle simple electronics and speaker repairs in-store but send others directly back to the manufacturers - we can advise
Do you offer turntable servicing ?
Yes, we are experts in the servicing of Rega's and Linn LP12's and may also handle other brands subject to the parts still being available - please ask.
